Andrea Cuomo
Andrea Cuomo is Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager of STMicroelectronics' Europe, Middle East and Africa Region, and has held this position since January 2008. He also heads the Advanced Systems Technology (AST) group and is a member of ST's Corporate Strategic Committee. In 2010, Cuomo was appointed Chairman of 3Sun, ST's joint venture with Enel GreenPower and Sharp for production of photovoltaic panels. Cuomo joined SGS Microelettronica, a predecessor company to STMicroelectronics, in 1983. In 1989, he became Director of Strategy and Market Development for the Dedicated Products Group. In 1994, Cuomo was appointed Vice President for the Headquarters Region. In 1998, he created the AST group, a key organization in the development of ST's system knowledge and advanced architectures. In 2002, Cuomo was promoted to Corporate Vice President, and took on further responsibilities as Chief Strategic Officer in 2005. His board memberships include the International Advisory Board at the HEC Business School in Paris, the International Advisory Board of Nano-Tera, a Swiss National program for Nanotechnologies, and TT Factor, the IP utilization arm of the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia. Andrea Cuomo was born in Milan, Italy, in 1954, and studied Nuclear Science at the Polytechnic of Milan.

Nel 1998 fa nascere il gruppo AST, un’organizzazione che ha un ruolo fondamentale nello sviluppo delle conoscenze sistemistiche e delle architetture avanzate. Nel 2002 Andrea Cuomo è promosso Corporate Vice President e nel 2005 diventa Chief Strategic Officer.
Cuomo è membro dell’International Advisory Board dell’HEC Business School di Parigi, dell’International Advisory Board di Nano-Tera, programma nazionale svizzero per le nanotecnologie, e di TT Factor, l’organizzazione dell’Istituto Europeo di Oncologia per l’utilizzo della proprietà intellettuale.
Andrea Cuomo è nato a Milano nel 1954 e ha studiato Scienza Nucleare al Politecnico di Milano.
Sanitizing water at minimal costs
In absence of a power grid, Sun4Water, a revolutionary device, can make clean drinking water from any raw water source and provide electricity to power a few mobile phones and camping lights. Depending on the region, it can serve the daily need of water 40 to 50 people at a cost of €1-2 per year per person.
The system includes a solar panel, a filter, a pump, a battery and some electronic controls. It has the capability to filter bacteria, viruses as well as metals and all suspension materials (up to 0.001 micron size).
Its use can potentially change the lives of the billion of people across the world, that today have no access to clean drinking water nor to electricity.
In assenza di rete elettrica, il rivoluzionario sistema Sun4Water è in grado di produrre acqua potabile da qualsiasi fonte idrica e fornire l'elettricità sufficiente per alimentare alcuni telefoni cellulari e luci da campeggio. A seconda della regione, esso potrebbe garantire la quantità necessaria di acqua per 40-50 persone al costo annuo di 1-2 euro a persona.
Il sistema è composto da un pannello solare, una pompa, una batteria e alcuni comandi elettronici, ed è in grado di filtrare batteri, virus, metalli e tutti i materiali sospesi (fino a 0,001 micron).
