Kathleen Kennedy Townsend
ENG. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend is Vice President of The Future Of Science. Ms. Townsend has a long history of accomplishment in the public arena, and for the last decade has in the private sector.
She is a Managing Director at the Rock Creek Group, an investment management company.
Ms. Townsend founded the Center for Retirement Initiatives at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University, where she is a Research Professor.
As the State of Maryland’s first woman Lieutenant Governor, Ms. Townsend was in charge of a multimillion-dollar budget and had oversight of major cabinet departments, including Economic Development and Transportation, State Police, Public Safety and Correction and Juvenile Justice.

Nothing is certain.
Dr Veronesi created this conference because he wanted to build support for science, for the culture of science, for scientific undertakings. He knew that that science was under attack.
Indeed it is.
The United States has pulled out from the Paris Climate Pact.
Scientists are being silenced by our government.
There are fights over the efficacy of vaccines spreading, and by those who would deny climate change.
So the challenge for people of good will is to raise their voices in support of science…and to do so in ways that will prove effective.
One way is to build solidarity. On April 22, Earth Day, supporters took to the streets in over 600 marches, rallies and gatherings around the world.
A second way, is to elect good politicians.
A third way to reach those with compelling arguments.
What is not acceptable is to do nothing. As my father used to quote Dante, “the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in times of moral crisis, preserve their neutrality.

Il Professor Veronesi ha dato il via a questa conferenza per promuovere il sostegno alla scienza, alla cultura scientifica e ai suoi successi. Sapeva bene che la scienza è attualmente sotto attacco, e aveva ragione.
Gli Stati Uniti si sono ritirati dagli accordi di Parigi sul clima.
L'amministrazione degli USA sta mettendo a tacere gli scienziati.
L'efficacia dei vaccini e la gravità dei cambiamenti climatici sono sempre più oggetto di discussione suscitando un crescente scetticismo.
Per questo la sfida per tutte le persone di buona volontà consiste nel far sentire la propria voce a favore della scienza adottando strategie efficaci.
Una di queste è la solidarietà. Il 22 aprile, molte persone hanno partecipato agli oltre 600 cortei, dimostrazioni e incontri in tutto il mondo in occasione della Giornata della Terra.
Un secondo strumento a nostra disposizione è l'elezione di rappresentanti politici capaci.
Un terzo consiste nel saper dibattere con argomentazioni convincenti.
Ciò che non è accettabile è non agire. Come diceva mio padre citando Dante, "Il luogo più caldo dell'inferno è riservato a coloro i quali, in tempi di grande crisi morale, si mantengono neutrali".
